China/Hong Kong Blossoms
The My Little Ponies that were released throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, parts of Europe, South America, and Africa were made in Hong Kong and China. These are considered the regular releases while the ones made in other countries are considered the variants.
flat foot Blossom
After the My Pretty Pony that was released in 1981, Hasbro released My Little Ponies in 1982. There were six of them, all in the same pose, that is now called the collectors pose. They were each released with a ribbon and straight original comb. The first run we call flat foot because the bottom of their feet are completely flat. These didn't last long though, probably because the front legs were too short and too far back, making the ponies very prone to falling over face first.
concave foot Blossom
Later in the first year the original six My Little Ponies were re-released, but their mold had been modified a bit. The ponies in this new mold are referred to as concave foot (for reasons I'm sure you can guess). She was sold on a card with a white ribbon for her hair and a white original comb.
2nd year CF Blossom
In the second year Blossom was released, not in the original six, but with Cotton Candy in a new set of earth ponies including those in the shy pose and the sitting pose. She was still released on a card, but the artwork was different. The white ribbon was the same, but this time she was given a white flower brush instead of the comb.
Baby Blossom
Baby Blossom has so many accessories it takes two to show it all off! Baby Blossom did come in a box and originally had curly hair, but the curl has fallen out of mine. She came with a pink ribbon, pink bear brush, pink rattle, pink B.A.B.Y necklace, aqua rocker, aqua topped bottle and blue trimmed bib.
mail order Blossom
The original six ponies were available again in later years, this time through mail/special order. They were available through a variety of offers (even through Avon I've been told) from either 1985 or 1986 (I need confirmation on that date) through early 1988. The MIP mail order Blossoms that I've seen all seem to be pretty pinkish in color. The mail order ponies are known for their slight differences in colors.
pearlised mail order Baby Blossom
Baby Blossom was available in 1989 (and possibly later) through mail order, but she was a little different. This time she was pearlized! Although the pamphlet spelled it as pearlised (lol, can't spell Hasbro?) She was sold with a single pink ribbon. See the comparison pics of her and the original Baby Blossom in the gallery at the bottom of this page.
25th Anniversary Blossom
The re-release or "retro" collectors pose ponies were sold in the original Flat Foot pose, but their overall looks were not quite the same, they are missing their forelocks, have smaller eyes, and slightly different colors.
